Merate: il Comitato No al Pozzo a Villa Confalonieri
First book of the Well No
Committee not to forget and look to the future
The story of a victory, a mobilization which started from the bottom and was able to win the challenge against the "giant" ready to drill for oil in the heart of the Park and the Valley of Montevecchia Curone . The "story Po Valley", which held their breath throughout the provinces of the spring and summer of the year draws to a close, we has turned into a book thanks to the "No Committee at the Well", whose activities did not stop with the victory at the end of summer.
The story, which held bank in the spring of this year's summer in Lecco and saw that on one hand the Australian company with Italian Edison Gas Po Valley, and other press, citizens, local authorities, associations and, above all, the combative Civic Committee, is encapsulated in the just-published book with the significant title "Green gold, petroleum and history of mulberry trees in the park Montevecchia", commissioned by the "No Committee at the well" in Editions Biographical e curato da Paola Lazzarotto.
Ma la legge sulle procedure for searching for oil has changed just during the summer, in the heart of the Po Valley and then each other from now on will not be as easy to avoid wells, or to do battle against.
This is the real reason for the book: take stock of what has happened, understanding what hath been risked putting a point of no return and, if still Brianza will be targeted by oil companies, the first sign of instances to start from there from the summer of 2009. Not only did
. The other, equally important reason is to capitalize on positive and practical experience, where a large area of Brianza has been able to recognize themselves in a compact territory, beyond parochialism and political colors. And it is yet to defend this territory that the Committee not to the well disappears, turns into a permanent committee proposes alternative energy to challenge the 40 million barrels of oil that was supposed to be there in the park with clean energy.
The book has been completely self-financed by the Committee, the Committee is not sold at the well at a price of 10 €. Proceeds from the sales will go to strengthen sustainable energy projects in Lecco and information projects in schools.
The evening's official presentation will take place Friday, December 18 at the hall of the Villa Confalonieri 21 hours in Merate, Andrea Robbiani with the mayor, the president of Eugene Park Mascheroni, the editors of the book, representatives of municipalities and Meratese Casatese and citizens who have given their 33 thousand signatures in support of the protest (attached the flyer of the event and the book cover). In the evening you can buy copies of the book.
The book is also sold on newsstands of the main centers of Lecco, in particular, is available at the following stores:

Coast of overflow
LONDON - They say that even the "holy hermit" loved the stretch of sea. Morrone, Celestine V, climbed the hills of Fossacesia up there to enjoy the Adriatic "Dotted with overflowing." The typical wooden fishing platforms are still there, a symbol of one of the most beautiful coasts of Abruzzo: the brochures of tourist promotion of the "Land of the Parks" emphatically describe the "sweet cultivated hills that form the backdrop to this sea." But those parties, the beach front in Ortona, could soon rise to a new platform. Of a kind quite different from the ancient fishing machines. This project Elsa2 Vega Oil: a well for oil exploration by drilling 7 kilometers from the coast.
REPORT - The outlook is not at all like the sideways movement of citizens, associations, trade unions and producers which is welded on the ground (and in Net) against what has been called a "derived oil." Also because the shaft Vega Oil - a company controlled by Canadian Cygam - is not an isolated case. Indeed. As it says in a dossier published in February by WWF and Legambiente, and obtained from data of the Ministry of Economic Development, around 50% of the Abruzzo region is affected by instances, permits and concessions for the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons (the document in pdf here). In practice, nearly three-quarters of Commons (221) and 80% of the regional population. Not only that: the Abruzzo region in Italy is the second for "total area occupied by exploration permits and concessions cultivation ': 34% of the territory has already been assigned. Also because, as explained in the Annual Report 2008 of the Department of Energy, the area of a mining license (which should be stated, is not always linked to oil) is much higher than that actually occupied by the plants. The "green heart of Europe", which is home to three dozen national parks and nature reserves, has in fact discovered to have an unexpected call mining.
COMMENTS - After appeals, demonstrations and leaflets, and environmentalists committee's move was to collect and send to the Ministry of the Environment a number of comments against the construction of the platform Elsa2. Simple citizens, associations, tour operators and academics have put pen to paper and drew up their technical reports, trying to remove the point by point the assurances of Vega Oil. A campaign backed by the Province of Chieti: the chairman, Enrico Giuseppantonio, has long expressed its strong opposition to the project by pointing the finger at "the almost total lack of connection between national and local institutions." Confcommercio and "Emergency Environment Abruzzo, a network that brings together dozens of groups, have decided to distribute posters to color:" No petrolizzato Abruzzo.
The leaflets of Confcommercio
Nel frattempo si è mossa anche l'Italia dei Valori: i consiglieri regionali Paolo Palomba e Lucrezio Paolini hanno appena presentato una risoluzione urgente chiedendo the Chairman, Gianni Chiodi, worked with the national government: the goal is a measure of ten-year moratorium. "Large multinational companies engaged in the extraction of hydrocarbons - have motivated the two members IdV - see in Abruzzo, on land and at sea, a sort of 'land of plenty' are able to meet their own economic interests."
WWF - What are the reasons for the protest? The first is environmental. "The oil Abruzzo is dense, low-quality - said Dante Caserta, the National Council of the WWF, Corriere.it - to be refined locally. With all the risks associated with desulphurisation: from waste products is in fact hydrogen sulphide can be dangerous. " Not so according to the environmental impact study presented by Vega Oil, just to mention one of the cases on the agenda: the report reads that the interference from future drilling activities are "void" because it does not affect "the 'Current land use. " And what about the landscape, provide the outline of the platform will be "an event of short-term curiosity rather than an alteration of the landscape." Then there is the economic aspect, we are sure that a 'change oil' does not bring wealth and jobs? "We do not live in the desert - Caserta said. - Our region produces high quality wine and olive oil: this is not compatible with oil. And neither is tourism. A must give up something. " But the oil companies must pay local authorities a share of their revenues: is not appropriately compensated? "The legislation provides for royalties very low compared to other countries: 10% for extraction on land and even less for those at sea. Of this percentage, only a small portion comes to local authorities. "
The map of mining rights in Abruzzo
MORATORIUM - The crucial date that environmentalists and various associations have circled on the calendar is the next on December 31 that day expires In fact, the moratorium adopted at the previous regional legislature and that it is mainly served to halt the construction of the Centro Oli Ortona ("nothing more than a refinery," explaining to the WWF). For now the project seems Eni frozen, but the drills may take action somewhere else. "We call for a new moratorium - Caserta insists - that it serves to stop an unsustainable situation. There are already under way that situation will be difficult to block. But we must defend the interests of the people, not just those companies. "
Councillor state - is the region? What is the position of the junta? "This is a false problem," marks a Corriere.it the Councillor for the Environment, Daniela States. "We are the Green Region of Europe - he explains - and then we do not run that risk. The President Nails and Berlusconi himself were clear: there will be no petrolizzazione Abruzzo. The promise of the Prime Minister reassures you, that is. "Yes." Yet many ministerial processes have been started: how do you stop? "We're putting together a series of initiatives to carry out what the president promised during the election campaign Nails" announces the commissioner, but without going into detail. "I do not think I want to stop the drills - he explains - I want to think that there is no need to stop them because in a region verde non si deve correre questo rischio».

" Nero d'Abruzzo oil or green? "
Montevecchia: il ``Comitato No al Pozzo``
guarda al futuro con un presidio continuo
Un libro-testimonianza per non dimenticare, la consegna di oltre 32.000 firme in Regione, un presidio continuo portato avanti attraverso un osservatorio a livello nazionale, iniziative in local schools and the analysis of energy issues inside the Valley Park Curone. These are the present and future projects of the "No Committee at the Well", whose activities did not stop after the surrender of the Po Valley to drill on the Park, but continues ensure that the experience gained over months of opposition and collection signatures of both an example and develop the interest of people towards environmental issues paramount.
The Editor of the book Paola Lazzarotto and President Alberto Saccardi
"From our meetings after July 31, when the fateful abandonment of the plan, there was a program di iniziative possibili per riassumere l`esperienza che abbiamo vissuto, ufficializzare i risultati ottenuti e guardare al futuro" ha spiegato il presidente Alberto Saccardi.
"The first chapter speaks of the park, with figures and images. The second called the` I `Sit up a new field? Is the story of the companies that have set their eyes on this land before the Po Valley. In the third chapter, `Out of the Blue ', a story of Australian society` s appearance on the scene and launched by Marco `s alarm Molgora the mayors of the territory."
Some members of the committee: from left Linda Gatti, Alessandro Fassa, Marco Casati
Here begins the Adventure of the Committee. "The fourth chapter is titled` The people are organized is the story of the battle made by people, through the Committee and its chairman. Story continues in Chapter 5, to arrive at evenings and events described in the sixth section. The highlight of the protest with a manifestation Bagaggera, is told in Chapter # 7, `L` hot summer of `Park. L` 8 `th chapter is dedicated to the Mayors of Ente Parco`, in particular Marco Panzeri Rovagnate Alessandro and Andrea Brambilla Olgiate Robbiani as mayor of the second city of the territory. They've asked a few questions about the lived experience and future prospects of action, the story Po Valley gave him a `shake` the themes of environmental protection and the mayor of Merate proposed an ad hoc consortium of municipalities ".
Laura Bonfanti, head of the schools project and Joseph Galimberti
The Chapter Nine, '`An announcement on the night, through the moments of success after the decision of the Po Valley to retire, while the tenth is a reflection on why there has been surrendered, the theme around which there is still a mystery. "At the moment no one has really understood the motivations of some Valley," said the author `" Certainly the mass popular mobilization has done its part, the speaker `s provision of a regional, but for many the danger has passed only at the moment. "` The last chapter is yet to be written and will be devoted to the future work of the Committee. "The book will be entirely self-financed and will be sold as the T-shirts. It is the point from which to start, "said Saccardi" The 32,446 signatures (which will reach to 33,000 with the latest to be added) have been digitized and have been requested have been delivered to the presidency of the Region. It is an act due to the commitment that we've taken. "All will be involved in a friendly online competition." As they weigh 33,000 signatures? This will be the theme of the competition, "said the volunteer eco Carlo Cavenaghi" If you guess will award a surprise. "
The Committee President Alberto Saccardi
The activity of the Committee will continue the line of" permanent garrison "in three ways." First, an observatory that monitors information facts like anywhere else, "said Saccardi" At the regulatory level and current affairs. This is why the channels of the blogs and Facebook will continue their primary role. "" There are new entries and people who seek information from the Abruzzo region and the Park of Cilento, "said Marco Casati, responsible along with Stafano Dell 'Orto Contact Online "It` s more the emotional drive of the first, but the demand for information is high. "
Carlo Cavenaghi as it shows the folders of the signatures collected
The experience of the Committee will go into schools." We want to tell children what has happened and what has succeeded in making the popular mobilization, "said Laura Bonfanti, who along with Linda Gatti is following the project and will introduce a series of meetings on environmental issues such as energy saving, in primary and secondary schools who wish to join. We thought of a contest to design the logo for a canvas bag that will definitively replace the plastic bags, to carry out between January and April. A May, the anniversary of the arrival of the Po Valley, a winner will be awarded and will produce. We are in contact with the primary school of Santa Maria Hoè.

The theme of energy conservation will also involve the Park. "The Committee will work with the corporate body to assess possibilities in this direction, "said Joseph Galimberti" For example by setting up an area that is completely self-sufficient in energy. It is a form of awareness to citizens and can do much more than some laws. "We have yet to decide the title of the book." It would be nice to give opportunities to all to propose an on-site "brought Saccardi" This will help keep the interest high and popular participation. "

`` Well drilling rigs in the Valley of the 33 thousand signatures to save Curone Collections Park
E, in aggiunta, “il timore che il progetto di ricerca di petrolio nel parco di Montevecchia e del Curone questa volta possa riprendere scavalcando totalmente gli enti locali, since last July when a law was passed which now excludes local authorities from decisions about the use of their territory. "
the party executive committee and "No to the well" had immediately expressed some surprise at the sudden reverse of the Po Valley to give up drilling and even now, given that the law is and authorizes drilling, attention is always high. A talk was still
Eugenio Mascheroni, president of the park Montevecchia during a meeting of the Rotary Club Merate Brianza recalling the steps in recent months have seen the local community invested in the risk of seeing the perimeter of the park drilled for oil exploration.
Now the intention is to think of alternative energy production by showing that you can save, getting the same results without the destruction of the territory to which they could meet. "We have already expressed this desire" Mascheroni said "we want to deal with various ways to check in alternative energy, encourage the production and calculate the savings resulting therefrom. The sum of these factors should be greater than thermal energy of barrels of oil that would be obtained with the well. "
The story is known, from where, 15 years ago, the municipalities were advised that Agip was given permission to carry out hydrocarbon exploration in the area. The idea foundered on the opposition of Commons. In 2000, he checked another authorization for research of magnetic character and audiometric monitored by microbursts explosive wave back. Although this initiative was opposed by the municipalities and ended with no final in 2001.
In April 2009, the bolt from the blue: the Lombardy Region and the municipalities shall convene a joint venture between Edison and Australian Po Valley has been given the right to prospect for oil or gas liquids.
Rovagnate, Merate, and Lomagna Missaglia (an area of 30 square km) are the areas under the which you might find oil or gas, but we must drill to find out without creating impact on local areas. So we need to go to drill across "where there is nothing", ie, in this case, in a protected nature reserve.
Park and municipalities have not even considered that he should discuss the environmental impact or to open a negotiation to obtain, in return, social compensation projects. Party with the rise of the protest committee, collecting 35 thousand signatures and a great event with over 2 thousand people Bagaggera.
Suddenly, July 31, Po Valley announced the Ministry of Economic Development, the abandonment of the plan. It is still not clear perché l’abbia fatto.

Abruzzo
not want to become a well (oil) bottomless
A plan is to install air extraction on 50% of the land: agriculture and tourism at risk
Hills Montepulciano Doc
I hope you want to talk about all the Abruzzo region as to save. In fact, Eni is preparing to transform our region into a mega oil field, making 50% of the territory in the area for the extraction of oil, including the hills of Montepulciano Doc, the Majella National Park, and that of Lazio and Abruzzo. For two years I'm trying to raise awareness of Abruzzo - politicians, people, young people and the Catholic church on this serious problem, with the national press seems to be mummified. Basilicata, where you drill for 15 years, died, and I wish that for once we were in Italy estimates and stopping environmental degradation before you start counting the dead. In Basilicata you can.
Abruzzo oil is of poor quality. It 's a highly corrosive and thick mud. The API index is 12. The world's best oil is to Texas to index 40. The worst are the sands of Canada
with index 8. Thus, the oil just a bit better than the Abruzzi oil sands of Alberta. The idea is to transform Eni 15 hectares of land in Montepulciano doc to Ortona in an oil refinery desulphurisation created just for the crap subsoil Abruzzo. This center is located 500 meters from the sea. It talks about building two more in the plain of Navenby and Teramo. The drills in the sea Pineto host the desulfurization on the platform itself.

environmental and economic assessments (by WWF) - An oasis of beauty in the concrete that covers most of the Abruzzo coast with unique botanical, geological, wildlife and history, is unfolding in the coastal stretch that runs from Ortona in San Salvo. A succession of cliffs, coves, sandy and pebble beaches, interrupted by the famous "overflow", the skeletons of wood magically suspended between the earth and the sea to fishermen unfamiliar with the waves. Behind coastal hills of Montepulciano which yields the fine wine, product worthy of a place once called "the golden land", for the abundance of water, the fertility of the countryside and beautiful scenery. This strip of coast, thanks to miraculously survived by a disused railway line, now discontinued-is disappearing at breakneck speed under the ignorance of most of our municipal administrators, regional and national government, despite some initial efforts and important safeguards. E 'in 2001 that began the process of establishing the Park Costa Teatina ever undertaken by any regional government that has succeeded. In 2007 alone, four small reserves are established in regional a system of protected areas, which however can not stop the speculation. Today the coast could also derived hydrocarbons: constant increase of oil drilling at sea and on land, under the Three-Year Plan of the Ministry of Energy Production, the impending creation of a Center Oil (refinery), temporarily suspended due to the tenacious Opposition groups and committees of citizens, the prospect of a port (Ortona) for the oil industry. This is not enough rivers in dire conditions, overbuilding that advances relentlessly, smothered beaches and bathing establishments that phagocytize the residual dune habitat, the future of this very special dye bleak stretch of coast.

Il rapporto guadagno petrolifero/perdita agricoltura è infinitamente basso. Ad Ortona, oil will bring 30 jobs (Eni said the same) compared to 5000 families in various towns around the proposed refinery employed in agriculture who will lose their livelihood, to say nothing of the tourism and fishing of the place. Oil is a resource for Abruzzo Abruzzo, but for Eni. There is a common petrolizzato "in Italy where you live well with oil: explosions in Trecate, petrolfiere sunken in Genoa, deformed babies in Gela, tumors outside all limits in Falconara, pollution to the stars at Melissa, Priolo, Augusta, Cremona, Falconara, Mantova, Sannazzaro Sarroch, Marghera, Manfredonia.
also famous for the royalties, we do worthwhile. In Norway between governmental and local taxes, you must leave 80% of the proceeds to the Norwegians. In Italy, government fees are 30% and then to remain Abruzzesi 1% of the wealth extracted. But if the extract below a certain limit, you pay zero insight. Who controls the oil extracted is the same stripper! For the oil companies want to give away 50% of the territory, including part of the national parks and the coast. Living in those territories, 80% of the people of Abruzzo. A survey done by the central government show that 75% of Abruzzi is contrary to the augers. The earth is but Eni of Abruzzo. Thanks to other works already carried out (including the central gas turbine Gissing), Abruzzo already produces more energy to what he needs. The oil can not coexist with the Abruzzo region we know today.

Final Stages Of Perimenopause
Abruzzo does not want to become a well (oil) bottomless
Montevecchia:
Committee continues the coverage of the No to the Well, a short book
Summarize experience, formalize the results and look to the future. These are the goals of the No Committee at the Well ", which arose in opposition 's application to search for oil within the" Bernaga "of the Park and the Valley of Montevecchia Curone by Edison and Po Valley. The Steering Committee, led by President Alberto Saccardi, met Monday, Sept. 14 took the seat of the park Montevecchia I throw the House, where popular protest has begun. "We need to focus on the closure of our activities related to each other Po Valley," said Saccardi "on three fronts. First delivery of the 35,000 signatures collected, digitally and on paper, in the region together with the resolutions adopted at the municipal level. To do this we need to formalize this collection, for it probably will participate in the day Ca Soldier planned for Sunday, September 27 with a gazebo. Then realize a book that encompasses materials and evidence of our experience. This is a fixed point from which to depart, to sum up our adventure. " There are several responsibilities of board members, but love per il proprio territorio e l’interesse per le tematiche ambientali sono comuni. Gran parte della serata è stata incentrata sulla possibile struttura del libro sulla vicenda Po Valley.
“L’idea è nata nel During the evening of celebrations for the renunciation of the research by Po Valley, "said the journalist who will be responsible for preparation of materials" There was joy, but also a feeling of emptiness, because everything they had fought all of a sudden not c 'was no more. It's amazing how this area has been mobilized, with modern methods (blogs, Facebook), traditional (in the event Bernaga), and I thought it would be nice to tell. " Several issues to be addressed, starting with the history of this matter through the bureaucratic documentation, taking up the story of perforations Sernovella. And then on the online and printed publications, the reaction della gente attraverso tutti i canali messi in atto e ovviamente la storia del Comitato No al pozzo e la sua evoluzione. "It's important not to die as the Committee has already happened with other groups, such as Agenda 21," said Deputy Mayor John Cernusco Zardoni "The story of oil has to rediscover the beauty of this area and we must be prepared to defend it when they return ". Many have proposed initiatives aimed at children of elementary school, middle and high school, at different levels. Not only courses on the environment and the beauty of the park, but the demonstration that with the commitment and mobilization is possible to bring home some important results, as did the committee opposing the well.
