The mining town of Broken Hill (Australia) continues to be talked about. And this time it is the latest chapter in the saga of "Mad Max", the post-apocalyptic film shot in the 80s on the outskirts of the remote Australian town, but the installation of the largest operating wind farm to date in the land of kangaroos. The German Epuron, the Conergy Group, gave an assurance that if approved by the Government of New South Wales, the facility consists of 500 wind turbines (at a cost of 1.2 billion euro) will be operational in stages from the end of 2009. The company will submit the detailed proposal in March next year and approval of the local government is expected by the end of the year. According to Epuron the plant will be among the largest operating in the world with a capacity of nearly 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy. Can produce up to 4.5% of annual energy needs of New South Wales, illuminating many as 400,000 homes, reducing the emissions of three million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and create about 100 permanent jobs in the area.
